Good central location. Friendly helpful desk staff. Room was quiet at night. Nice courtyard in hotel and other public lounges for relaxing. Very unique building architecturally. Bathroom was fine.
Poor elevator with a jolting suspension, as well as too slow. Breakfast choice was limited, and never had cold milk for cereal. Some confusion at check-in, as to whether my reserved room had air-conditioning. Public areas need updating: chairs, rugs etc.
This historic hotel combined faded grandeur, very convenient location, excellent breakfast, and superb value for money. Loved it! Would recommend, and would visit again.
Very nice architecure and decoration inside the building, excellent breafkfast and location
The building, the art-déco fourniture, the breakfast!
I like to practice my portuguese when I travel to Portugal. I know it is kind that the staff try to speak spanish to me, because I come from Spain, but when I ask them to speak portuguese, that is because I would like to learn the language! Your language is another reason for many people to visit your country, don't waste it!
Like staying in a 19th century hotel if that's what you're in to, I don't think much has changed from the 1880's, other than it now has wifi (only really accessible in the lobby). But still a very charming and pretty comfortable hotel, and excellent location - very close to the liveliest nightspots and great restaurants, 5 minutes to the train station and central square and about another 5/10 minutes to the waterfront.
Supposedly a 24 hour hotel, but you do need to ring the bell after hours to be let in (guests aren't given front door keys). The old man on the nightshift when we were staying there was very grouchy and took about 10 minutes to answer the door when we needed to be let in at 2am after a night out. He was also pretty rude to me when I pointed out that if the hotel truly was 24 hours there should be someone on the desk at all times and if not, just gives guests front door keys!
It is a beautiful and very unique hotel really enjoyed our stay.
It had faded grandeur, like the rest of the old part of Porto. The hotel was very much in keeping with the feel of the whole city, a little run down, old fashioned. A hotel from anothe era.
The staff were a little cool and not overly friendly. This could, however, have been the language difference.
Wonderful atmospheric hotel. Far more ambience and charachter than most five star hotels....and a breakfast choice to die for!
Helpful staff, nice ambience of faded grandeur, very good breakfasts, handy central situation. Would be happy to return.
Not their fault there are rather too many alarmingly ruined or abandoned buildings in inner Porto, including immediately behind the hotel. Handy garden very small.
We stayed here many years ago so it's great to see the improvements that have taken place. It's unlike any of the hotels I normally stay in for business so love the fact it is so unusual. We stayed as a family so we had a good family room that was really comfortable for the 4 of us. Great breakfast (pancakes included!) and lovely staff Thank you!
Very reasonably priced centrally located hotel with lovely olde worlde charm and spotless rooms Very friendly and helpful staff Great breakfast
Good location, near to metro and main station. good ,clean, comfortable rooms. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Would have liked Breakfast to have been available from 07.00 am
I liked the old fashioned style both in design and decoration and in the politeness and helpfulness of the staff
The staff were friendly and helpful. The location excellant and the features within the hotel were charming. Am surprised this is only classed as '2 star'
